Enjoying Japanese food at Babaque

Whenever I can I'd like to eat some authentic tasting Japanese food. I miss Japan terribly after visiting the country twice. And while I can cook a bunch of dishes myself, it never gets close to someone who knows how to cook authentic Japanese food. One place I can highly recommend is Babaque in The Hague!

Babaque is a small restaurant near the Vredespaleis / Peace Palace. They have a long garden with a bunch of table spots, so during warm weather it's a perfect to escape the busy street the restaurant is on. We visited during one of the warm summer days in August and got a spot in the garden. We live in the city ourselves but we still get surprised with how quiet it can be in a city garden.

Three images: Kitsune Udon, the sign of Babaque and Tempura Udon.

They have a menu with some recommendations that change, I believe, according to the season. We went in the summer so the temporarily items on the menu were some very refreshing items. I got the cold Yuzu soda with mint and ginger to try. It was very refreshing and perfect! They also had a big selection of Japanese beer and sake for those who drink alcohol.

Even tho it was warm we opted for Tempura Udon and Kitsune Udon, with a starter of Gyoza and Karaage which was so freshly made, we got another Karaage as a 'dessert'! For the sweet dessert I got the Ichigo Daifuku which was amazing. On par with the few I had in Japan, so happy I could taste one again. The owner is also very kind and was curious where we were from.

With the colder months coming up I'm hoping to get a lunch again there, their Tempura don is also very good, can only recommend this restaurant really!

Babaque is open from 11:30 till 21:30. They are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I highly recommend going there sometime!
